In 2021 we announced our Ghaf Tree Project, pledging to plant one million Ghaf tree seeds using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) - drone technology.
Considering the urgency to reduce global carbon emissions and to restore natural habitats, leveraging technology to minimise the manual work will enable us to reach our ambitious goal in years rather than decades.
In 2022, we transitioned from our initial drone solution to unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) that come equipped with bespoke seedball planting systems and tracks, and are backed by extensive R&D that focuses on seed optimization and viability.
The on-ground solution is more suitable to the desert environment and solves for some limitations faced in the the first year of implementing the aerial solution, including short operating times and depth of soil penetration abilities.
